On Saturday 8th April 2017, Harley celebrated his first birthday! I can’t believe he’s now 1! Time has absolutely flown by! It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were waiting for the news that his mum had started to give birth and we began to see tiny puppies! Harley is definitely not a tiny puppy anymore though, he weighs a huge 12kg! He’s not a cavachon anymore… he’s a MEGAchon!!!
Harley has kept up his training, and is still really obedient (most of the time). Since my last blog post, we have started letting Harley off the lead when we go out for walks. We tried this before, however we always had a lot of trouble getting him to come back, especially if he spotted another dog. However we have a whistle which we blow now which he comes back to us to when he hears it. So if he gets a little bit too far away from us, we can blow the whistle and he comes running back, and gets a treat for being good.
In January we decided to get Harley neutered. This is because we didn’t want to breed him, and we also researched and found that it may calm him down a bit. Although he had calmed down with age, he was still an extremely hyper dog. After the operation he was really needy and didn’t want to leave our side for a couple of days, bless him. But overall he has really calmed down, and has turned into a much more cuddly dog, which mum is very pleased about!
Harley has found his love for food again, there was a time a few months ago where he turned is nose up at everything we gave him, but now he will eat anything we put in front of him, especially chicken wings! He loves his food! In my last pupdate I explained how Harley was having trouble sleeping in his crate, since then we have decided to get rid of the crate as he continued to cry every night. He now sleeps upstairs in his basket in mum and dads room. We were sceptical at first but it has turned out great. Harley now sleeps through the whole night without needing to get up for a wee!
Harley’s experienced lots of new things in the past six months like going for a run on the beach and also his first Christmas! He got spoilt with toys both at Christmas and his birthday, however sadly he managed to destroy the majority of them within 5 minutes of receiving them. For some reason he prefers to chew and eat his toys rather than play with them!
Overall Harley is doing really well, and we are still all so happy having him in our lives. Not sure when I’ll do another pupdate, maybe in a years time to see if anything has changed, or if he reaches another milestone.
See you soon! Woof! Woof!
