It’s getting around to that time of year again, where all you want to do, is put on your pj’s, make yourself a hot drink, light a couple of candles, snuggle under a blanket and stick a bit of Netflix on.
I always find that Autumn is the best time of year for film and television. So I thought I’d share with you some of my top Netflix picks, if you’re stuck for something to binge on when the cold, dark nights, draw in. And who doesn’t love a good Netflix binge?
I think this is probably my all time FAVOURITE Netflix show! If you haven’t seen it yet then you absolutely must! I think I managed to watch the whole of the first season in a couple of days it was that good! I just couldn’t stop watching it, and it feels like I have been waiting forever for the second season to come around, but its finally here (hurray!). The series follows the aftermath of the death of one of the Blossom twins, Jason. Four friends, Archie, Betty, Jughead and Veronica try to uncover the mystery of his death, whilst dealing with the struggles of everyday teenage life. I won’t say to much, because I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but OMG THAT ENDING!!! Even if the story doesn’t sound like something you’d be interested in, you have to watch it just for Cole Sprouse!
Pretty Little Liars
Not going to lie, I was very late to the PLL party! I actually only started watching during my gap year which was in 2015/2016, but I managed to catch up in a couple of months, which I think is pretty impressive, considering how many episodes there are. The show follows five girls from Rosewood, one of the girls, Alison, goes missing and is presumed dead. The other four begin to receive mysterious messages from ‘A’, who later becomes ‘A.D’. This person threatens and tortures them for the mistakes they have made before and after Alison was alive. At first, they think it is Alison herself, but after her body is found, the girls realize that someone else is planning on ruining their lives. I think that I suspected everyone of being ‘A’ at one point or another during the course of the show.
This is such a good show to watch, especially around this time of year! The kids in it are all such good actors as well! I found it quite hard to get into at first, but trust me and stick with it, its definitely worth the watch. The story is set in Indiana in the 1980’s. A nearby lab performs scientific research, but secretly does experiments into the paranormal and supernatural, including those that involve human test subjects. These start to affect the unknowing residents of Hawkins in awful ways. The series follows the investigation into the disappearance of a young boy, Will, and the appearance of a psychokinetic girl, Eleven, who helps the missing boy’s friends in their own search, whilst supernatural events occur around the town.
13 Reasons Why
I was very sceptical about watching this show at first, as I had heard a lot of mixed reviews on it. But I’m glad I did watch it, as I was hooked from the first episode! The series follows Clay Johnson as he listens to the 12 tapes delivered to his doorstep. On the tapes are Hannah unfolding an emotional audio diary, detailing the thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Each person who receives the package is one of the reasons why she killed herself. After each person has completed listening to the tapes, they must pass the package on to the next person. If anyone decides to break the chain, a separate set of tapes will be released to the public. I found it very clever how Netflix added all of the episodes at the same time, so that you could binge watch them in one night like Alex did, or pace yourself and watch them over a longer period of time like Clay.
RuPaul’s Drag Race
This show is my absolute guilty pleasure! If you haven’t seen the show before, it is basically a reality competition, where RuPaul searches for “America’s Next Drag Superstar”. The show is very dramatic, but also extremely camp and flamboyant! Each episode they are set challenges which puts their drag skills to the ultimate tests! Series 2-9 is currently on Netflix, so loads of episodes for you to binge on. I love this show as it is such a funny, easy watch.
I’ve also started watching a couple of new series on Netflix, but haven’t finished watching them yet, so I didn’t want to put them in here. But so far I am really enjoying #RealityHigh, Ozark and The Mist. All three of these are Netflix Original shows. Netflix do have some really great originals, so I’ll definitely be watching a few more when I get the time.
What are some of your fave Netflix picks? Let me know!
