New Year’s Resolution Inspiration | Happy New Year

We’re almost halfway through January, which means that most of us would have failed our New Year’s resolutions by now. I’m actually not a huge fan of New Year’s resolutions at all, as it puts so much pressure on you to change things, which can be really hard especially after Christmas when all everyone has done is eat, drink and party! Sometimes I think that instead of setting specific targets of things you’d like to do, it’s better to think about what you’d like to do more of or less of. For example, instead of saying you want to go to the gym 5 times a week, you would say that you would want to exercise more frequently. By not putting exact targets on your goals, there is less pressure on you and your not setting yourself up for failure.

Here is what I hope to do more of and less of this year:

Be more sustainable…

This is something that I’ve been working on for the past couple of years now. Being more sustainable can include doing simple things such as reusing bottles for water and carrier bags for shopping, walking places instead of driving and cutting down on plastic. I’ve also been trying to eat less meat and also buy less ‘new’ clothes. Depop is definitely the way to go!

Be better at saving money…

Okay, I say this every year and it always fails, as I am far too easily tempted by holidays and going out for food. However, this is the first year that I will have a full-time job for the whole year (as long as nothing goes wrong), meaning that I will be on a full-time wage and have a bit more money to put aside each month. My boyfriend and I also want to start saving for our own house, so setting up a savings account will be a top priority this year. This doesn’t mean to say I won’t still be tempted by night’s out and holidays… Just maybe a few less than last year.

Be better at skincare…

Over the Christmas and New Year celebrations, I definitely indulged and my skin knows about it. A few weeks of back-to-back cheese, booze and chocolate marathons was fun at the time but now I am paying the price! I’ve been doing some research into what products will work best for my skin, and then I’m going to try and stick to it as much as possible, and hopefully have fewer breakouts this year.

Be online less…

My whole life revolves around being online! I work in social media, meaning that I’m sat at a laptop all day, and then when I get home I spend so much of my time on my phone, on my own social media, to the point where I don’t get anything that needs to be done, done. So this year, I’d like to put my phone and laptop down a bit more and be more social. Being on Instagram all the time is not the best for self-esteem, so also unfollowing and blocking certain accounts should help my mental health.

Hopefully, when I come back to this post at the end of 2020, I’ll be happy with what I achieved!

What are your New Year’s resolutions?
